Protecting and helping the wildlife of Crete. Crete is rich in its variety of wildlife. However, these animals also need protection and help. Quite often birds will suffer from poisoning or fall prey to hunters. Hedgehogs are prone to ticks and lice contracted from the sheep and tortoises are often victims of traffic accidents.

A member of CAWS’s board is an experienced wildlife rehabilitator. In her personal time, she answers calls for help regarding sick and injured wildlife from across the island. She collects the animals, takes them to a veterinarian who will provide any necessary treatment and cares for them until fully recovered. The animals are then logged by the University of Crete before their release back into the wild. For more information please call 6944389567

CAWS is now investigating the possibility of obtaining a license in order to carry out this work as part of its project remit.
